Phoenix, AZ Is 2nd Most Popular Area To Move To For Families w/ Children
Financial research firm MagnifyMoney has recognized Phoenix, AZ as the second top area for families with children under 18 to move to between 2016 and 2017. The New York-based firm arrived at the final rankings by deducting the number of families who moved out of a particular area in the aforementioned timeframe from the number of families that migrated in.
While Phoenix has been known as a top migration spot for retirees and snowbirds, the city saw a net inflow of 5,580 families out of 14,589 households moving in and 9,009 moving out. Phoenix was only bested by Riverside, CA with a net mobility of 6,279 families from 15,659 households migrating into the area and 9,380 leaving.
Both Phoenix and Riverside are growth markets with lower costs of living than other big cities like New York, Los Angeles and Chicago which were the top three areas losing the most number of families. New York lost 24,969 household, Los Angeles dropped 14,754 while Chicago saw 10,549 families moving out.
Although a California city pulled ahead of Phoenix for the most popular area for households with children under 18 to move to, a migration trend of Californians moving to more affordable, lower tax states like Arizona has been observed for quite some time now. And more Californians are expected to move out in the next few years to areas offering affordable housing options and better quality of life. If you're in the same boat and are wondering what the Grand Canyon state offers, feel free to reach out about the good life waiting for you when you move in to Arizona!
