Ten AZ Zip Codes Popular With Baby Boomers
A RENTCafe research analyzing Census data from 250 of the largest US cities revealed the most popular zip codes for baby boomers, or those the people born between 1946 and 1964. The study covered three main areas: namely zip codes with the largest Baby Boomer population, zip codes with the highest increase in Baby Boomers between 2012 and 2017, and zips with the highest share of Baby Boomers.
New York dominated the Top 20 zip codes with the largest Baby Boomer population, not only capturing the first spot but also having fourteen of its zip codes in this list. This only made Glendale's 85308 ranking 16th nationally with 14,133 Boomers all the more sweeter for the Copper State.
On the other hand, the Top 20 zip codes with the highest increase in Baby Boomers had nine Southern states placing in the list. However, Las Vegas headed this list with a 79% increase in just five years with other Southwestern cities like Phoenix following suit, gaining more and more Boomers.
Ranking third nationally on the list, the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport zip 85212 posted a 66% increase with 3,981 new boomers gained thanks to its relatively affordable housing costs and variety of leisure activities. (At a strict numerical value, this Mesa zip code would've come out first.) Two Phoenix zip codes and one Gilbert zip also made this list: 85085 at 46% with 2,849 new Baby Boomers, 85298 at 40% with 3,919 added and 85012 at 38% with 1,604 new seniors.
As for the Top 20 zip codes with with the highest share of Baby Boomers, Arizona grabbed five spots including first place. The Scottdale zip code of 85266 topped the national list with its 4,351 Baby Boomers at 35%. The other four zip codes are found in Tucson: 85739 at 30% with 5,591, 85749 at 29% with 5,468, 85718 at 27% with 7,079 and 85737 at 27% with 5,664.
