Gilbert Regional Park, a 272-acre recreational park, is set to open its first phase to the public on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019. The park will be open the whole day and will feature two grand opening celebrations. The first celebration will be a beach-themed party taking place between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. while the second will be held in the evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. as a "Laser and Glow Party." Both parties include giveaways and visits from the Gilbert police and fire departments.

Phase one of the park spans 30 acres near Higley and Queen Creek roads and features the following attractions: "The Mountain," a 35-foot-tall climbing and play structure with seven slides and two zip lines; "The Creek," a play area designed with little ones in mind; and "The Falls," a 4,000-square-foot splash pad with more than 50 water features. There are also six swings at the park, 10 shaded ramadas and picnic areas, bathrooms, and a lighted walkway.

The second part of phase one will begin a day after the opening. Expected to be completed by September 2020, this part will include 16 tournament-level pickleball courts, six tennis courts, two basketball sports, six sand volleyball courts, a 7 1/2-acre lake and pavilion, and a 10-acre event area.

Meanwhile, the second and third phases of the park are still on the drawing board and would most likely open a few more years after.

Construction has also not yet started on The Strand @ Gilbert, the 25-acre skills-based water park which will be located towards the front of the park.  The Strand @ Gilbert will feature three lagoons with cable-propelled skiing, wakeboarding and kneeboarding.

Gilbert Regional Park joins a growing list of new parks and attractions in Gilbert. Earlier in February 2019, Gilbert opened Cactus Yard a multi-sports facility near Power and Elliot roads which features eight replica baseball fields, an indoor soccer field, and a full-service restaurant and bar.

A 115-acre sports park called Desert Sky Park will have four collegiate-sized multi-purpose sports fields, a lake and an "obstacle course-style playground" when it opens in October.
