Fragments: Broken Bowls Tell More Tales
Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park
July 15 - 31, 2019

This temporary exhibit explores how researchers use thousands of broken pottery fragments to uncover a variety of details, from how the pottery was made to what it was used for and to where it was produced which aren’t always obvious during examinations of whole pottery vessels. These fragments called "sherds" are preserved in storage. The exhibit shows how these sherds help archaeologists piece together new ideas about the ancestral O'Odham, more commonly known as the Hohokam. Price is included with regular museum admission.

Color Riot! How Color Changed Navajo Textiles

Rooted in a time of unprecedented freedom to experiment  from the last quarter of the 19th century, come appreciate and applaud the Navajo weavers’ individualism and creativity vividly expressed in textile art. From the hard years of imprisonment in the Bosque Redondo to their eventual return to a reservation, the ideas and events during this time of great change are woven into Navajo textiles now recognized as works of art. Garman: Enduring Japanese American Internment at Gila River

"Enduring the seemingly impossible with patience and dignity." This poignant and transformative exhibit demonstrates how the Japanese value gaman guided over 16,000 Japanese Americans back in World War II who were forcibly removed from the west coast to Gila River Internment Camp, near Chandler, for simply looking like the enemy with a series of photos and stories as well as list of incarcerees' names and community contributed paper cranes.

These interactions are meant to have you thinking about the digital footprint we leave behind in the 21st century, from texting to a simple internet search, our effects on technology as well as the meaning and boundary of the art itself. Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Celebration

Come celebrate one of the greatest human achievements in science – the 50th anniversary of human’s first steps on the moon! Throughout the month of July, the Arizona Science Center commemorates the historic launch of the Saturn V rocket from Cape Kennedy carrying Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin by kicking off the celebration on July 19, Friday! Attractions include hands-on space, moon-themed activities and more Apollo-themed programming throughout the summer. Price information available at the Arizona Science Center website.

Now don't expect any mass-produced artwork or any imported or manufactured items here; jewelry artists must either create or design their own jewelry, and only hand-made crafts are allowed. Need a rest from your browsing? Historic Downtown Chandler also offers several snack spots and enjoy some snacks, or even some coffee and dessert.
