Huge Master Planned Community Coming At Utah-Arizona Border
What
started as plans to develop the "South Block" into a traditional
neighborhood more than a decade ago is now on track to become one of the
largest master-planned developments in Utah history. Be sure you get at
least a glimpse of the desert expanse along the Utah-Arizona border
because it will eventually be transformed into Desert Color, a
3,400-acre master planed community housing tens of thousands of new
southern Utah residents.
Think of a fully-functioning,
self-sustaining community hosting "a mixed-use commercial town center,
small mixed-use neighborhood commercial centers, resort-oriented
development and distinct residential neighborhoods are interconnected
with trail systems, parks, and amenities."
The unanimous approval
to more than 1,300 acres worth of zone changes from the city council of
St. George- rated as among the fastest-growing US cities- is testament
to the irresistible opportunity offered by Desert Color of a project
built and developed by an engaged community and its shared ideas and
feedback.
While no date has been specified yet for construction,
the first of three phases of Desert Color's development include some
5,900 units located at a triangular 1,300-acre slice of desert wedged
between Interstate 15 to the west, the Southern Parkway to the north and
east, and the state line to the south.
The founding neighborhood
will offer 124 residences ranging from single family housing to
townhomes with pricing starting at $250,000. The development of the two
other phases would subsequently grow the Desert Color community to more
than 10,100 new dwellings with an estimated 30,000 new residents.
