When it comes to lighting, most people might have a good idea of how their indoor lighting would work out but wouldn't it be nice if the same attention and details can be given to outdoor lighting too? Here's a few tips to get you started.

1. First and most importantly, get to know the types of light you can use for a better idea of how you'll be mapping your outdoor lighting, which can be a mix of one type or all available. Ambient lights such as hanging lights, post lights, or decorative wall lights usually serve as the base upon which you add the other type of lighting. Task lights are installed for a purpose, like lighting up a pathway or serving as security lights. Accent lights are for small touches around your patio or landscape, and aside from providing atmosphere and influencing mood, it can be used to highlight certain features and draw attention away from those you don't want to be noticed. Lastly, you have solar lights and string lights to pick for the perfect accents.

2. Now, when do you use accent lights over ambient lighting? Take a good look at the space from the inside to get a good feel for the size of the lights fitting for the mood you're going for.

3. Next, be sure you choose LED lights since they're way more efficient and require less maintenance.

4. And here's a life hack if you'll be doing plenty of entertaining- skip the blinding lights and go for subtle lighting for a better set up and mood.
